Armor Repair System

From EVEWiki

Jump to: navigation, search

A low slot, active module that uses capacitor to repair armor on 6 second intervals.

The repair to capacitor ratio is 1.5 to 1 (for a plain Tech 1 Armor Repair). It's more efficient than a Shield Booster (which has a 1 for 1 ratio), while having the same repair per second (10 HP per second for a Small sized). It does, however, have a longer cycle, thus may be more vulnerable to Volley Damage.

Armor repair (or any repair for that matter) operates on a different principle than other Armor modules. Rather than just giving you a static bonus to your maximum HP, or reducing the damage you take from a specific type of damage... it converts capacitor into HP. This creates two possibilities not present with other tanking modules:

1. Your HP is renewable. If you defeat one enemy, and no longer have weapons fire pouring in... you can restore your health, given time.

2. It is theoretically possible to make your Tank invincible by having a higher repair per second than the damage per second the enemy is doing. This is not possible by adding armor plates.

Armor Repair Systems can save you ISK - lots of ISK. They allow your ship to self-repair its armor, rather than spend loads of money at a Starbase's Repair Shop. The trade-off is time. While the Repair Shop does the job instantly, an Armor Repair System completes the task over a period of time. How much time depends on your related skill level and the attributes of the specific unit. Also a core component of a ship's tank.
