Overview

While any ship with enough Power Grid and CPU can fit and operate a Cloaking Device, the highly specialized Covert Ops frigates and cruisers gain considerable bonuses and flexibility when using them.

Covert Ops ships are supremely suited to reconnaissance work, either alone in enemy space, tracking ship movements, or as an invisible spotter, providing a warp coordinate for a much larger gang of heavy hitting ships in an organized surprise attack. They are capable of mounting a Covert Ops Cloaking device that allows them to warp while cloaked.

The Stealth Bomber variants of this class are essentially stealthy Torpedo Boats. They are capable of equipping Siege Launchers to fire Torpedoes, a category of ordinance usually unavailable to Frigate class ships. With massive range, explosion velocity, and damage bonuses, Stealth Bombers are capable of savaging Battleship class vessels from much further away than torpedoes typically allow. The catch is that smaller vessels shrug off the torpedoes with little to no effect, and Stealth Bombers have little defense beyond their covert cloak. Stealth Bombers can also equip the unwieldy but devastating Bomb Launchers to launch the Bomb weapon.

Covert Ops ships are a Tech II class of ship, with significant training and manufacturing requirements, compared to their Tech I variants. (See Frigates)
