Description & Bonuses
The Kestrel is a heavy missile boat with of the most sophisticated sensor arrays around. Interestingly enough, it has been used by both the Caldari Navy and several wealthy trade corporations as a cargo-hauling vessel. It is one of few trading vessels with good punching power, making it ideal for solo trade-runs in dangerous areas.
The Kestrel was designed so that it could take up to four missile launchers. Equiped with Light Missiles it's potentially the best suited long-range Tech 1 kiting frigate with consistent damage, as missiles don't suffer Accuracy Falloff. A targeting range of 40 km and a missile range of 19 (basic) to almost 30 km (skilled) means it can stay out of weapon and targeting range of most of its opponents. Its weak point being its only moderate speed compared to most other top-line Tech 1 frigates.
While more nimble than the sturdier Caldari Merlin the kiting ability and missile damage bonusses of a missile-equiped Kestrel makes PvE missions very easy to complete, even when facing cruiser class NPCs. Since it can not be equipped with turret weapons it also can't use mining lasers to utlize the relatively large cargo space.
Caldari Frigate Skill Bonus: 10% bonus to Kinetic missile damage and 5% bonus to EM, Explosive, and Thermal missile damage per level.
