The Megathron is without a doubt one of the best PvP ships for the Gallente faction. It accelerates quickly, has a high armor capacity, and is very versatile due to its number of fitting slots. It has seven turret slots and two launcher hardpoints, which are rare in the Gallente line-up. The Megathron shines as a sniper like few other ships can. With the proper skills and setup, a Megathron can hit targets from a distance of 150km. Such an extreme build requires fleet support from cruisers and frigates, as the sniper gear will strip a Megathron of all ability to tank and heal. It will rely on companion cruisers to pick off attackers and repair damage done to its armor and hull.

It used to be common practice to fit Warp Core Stabilizers on a 'Sniperthron' so that it could warp out of the battlefield when targetted, but with the penalties introduced in later patches (reduces targetting distance by 50%), the Megathron has become more dependent on others in these situations.

The other common build for the Megathron is conventionally referred to as the 'Blasterthron', because where the other strategy uses long-range railguns, this one uses short-range blasters. This build takes the Megathron to its technical limitations, but it makes one of the meanest PvP battleships around. By fitting the ship with tanking gear, the Megathron will use a microwarpdrive to dive into close range with a target, web it, and then pound it to rubble with high powered hybrid blasters.

Many Miners also find the Megathron useful for its 8 High Slots and 7 Turret Hardpoints, allowing up to seven Mining Lasers to be fitted to the combat ship. The large CPU and Powergrid of the battleship also allows for several Mining Upgrades modules to be fitted as well. Often, the battleship's durability makes it a very candid operator in low-security mining operations. If fitted and correctly skilled, the Megathron is capable of out-mining even Medium Mining Barges.

Description & Bonuses

The Megathron has established itself as one of the most feared and respected battleships around. Since its first appearance almost two decades ago it has seen considerable service in the troublesome regions on the outskirts of the Federation, helping to expand and defend Gallentean influence there.

Gallente Battleship Skill Bonus: 5% bonus to Large Hybrid Turret damage and 7.5% bonus to Large Hybrid Turret tracking speed per level.
