The Taranis is an unusual Interceptor because of its comparative lack of speed. In fact, it is the second slowest Interceptor after the Raptor.
However, the Taranis is the king of the hill when it comes to pure damage output. It might be the ship with the highest DPS of all frigate-sized vessels; its DPS can get up to 200 with the right fitting and skills. This makes the Taranis a very popular PvP ship. The fact that the Taranis is the only Interceptor with the ability to deploy drones adds further damage and makes it even more appealing to certain players. A skilled pilot might be able to kill almost any ship with a light or medium tank in a 1 vs. 1 firefight.
To get beyond the 100 DPS mark the Taranis has to be fitted as a Blasterboat, in which case it will have an effective range of about 2000m. This means that a Taranis pilot has to get very close to his or her target. Getting this close to the target in turn makes the Taranis more vulnerable to Stasis Webifiers and NOSes, an Interceptor pilot's worst nightmare.
The Taranis can easily be tackled by other Interceptors or even speed-fitted Frigates because of its comparative lack of speed. However, because of its ability to get close to other Interceptors, its ability to deploy drones, its superior firepower and its increased tracking for Small Hybrid Turrets, it is often used to counter other Interceptors during larger engagements.
Like a famous Taranis pilot said:
- The taranis is a ship for angry men or people who prefer to deal in absolutes. None of that cissy boy, "we danced around a bit, shot some ammo then ran away LOL", or, "I couldn't break his tank so I left", crap. It goes like this:
- You fly Taranis. A fight starts. Someone dies.

Description & Bonuses
Name: Taranis
Hull: Atron Class
Role: Interceptor
Interceptors utilize a combination of advanced alloys and electronics to reduce their effective signature radius. This, along with superior maneuverability and speed, makes them very hard to target and track, particularly for high caliber turrets.
Developer: Duvolle Labs
Duvolle labs manufactures sturdy ships with a good mix of offensive and defensive capacities. Since its foremost manufacturer of Particle Blasters its ships tend to favor turrets and thus have somewhat higher power output than normal.
Gallente Frigate Skill Bonus:
- 10% Small Hybrid Turret damage per level
Interceptor Skill Bonus:
- 15% reduction in MicroWarpdrive signature radius penalty
- 7.5% Small Hybrid Turret tracking speed Per Interceptor Skill Level
Role bonus:
- 80% reduction in Propulsion Jamming systems activation cost
