Welcome to the wiki

The practice is to include subcategory only. Could you elaborate (link) to what you mean by CCP allowing us categorization via the market? --Piotrus 03:49, 19 April 2010 (UTC)

Item Categories

I would like to see Ammunition and Charges broken into the same subcategories as the Market browser, i.e. Standard Hybrid Charges, Advanced Hybrid Charges etc. What do you think? -- Serps 03:36, 17 May 2010 (UTC)
Absolutely. My session yesterday only got me through the first Ammo and Charges main tree and I think one of the sub trees. I'm hoping that I can stay with it long enough to make all the categories parallel the market trees so that we could have a parallel database for use in the wiki as well. --Adorol 19:58, 17 May 2010 (UTC)
Thanks for your efforts so far! -- Serps 00:02, 18 May 2010 (UTC)

I'd say that if a category can have 20+ entries, it should be created. 10-20 - sometimes. Less - only if it makes a really good logical sense. --Piotrus 16:43, 23 May 2010 (UTC)

I'm almost exclusively coming from a logical angle.
The categories in the market browser tree often do have less than 10, but the categories definitely make logical sense. There are the extremely odd cases like Category:Nanite Repair Paste which which CCP seems to not be able to fit in any category. The problem that comes with just throwing the single page in the branch Category:Ammunition and Charges is that it would be the only object that isn't a subcategory. I purposefully left out the small, medium, large, extra large sub categories on a lot of ammo types because it's ridiculous to have hundreds of categories with one or even just a handful of items. For a few exceptions here and there mitigating the confusion caused by a parallel database that has a life of its own should be the deciding factor.
Of course, it's difficult to evaluate the category tree just in the wiki because most of the item pages do not exist yet. The way I'm looking at all the items right now is by having "show only available" unchecked in the market browser window in-game. --Adorol 19:02, 23 May 2010 (UTC)
I think a prudent approach would be
  1. create comprehensive category structure
  2. Move existing pages into the correct category. Tag them with a 'todo' category so you know whether they're done or not.
  3. Merge, break apart or otherwise fix existing pages on a per-category basis.
